Timeouts are lightning-quick interviews. Five questions to help you get to know the players holding court at Dribbble. Many thanks to Justin for being today’s interviewee.

Who are you? Let us know where you hail from and what you do.

Justin Helton My Name is Justin Helton, I am from Knoxville, TN and I am the Creative Director at AC Entertainment as well as the Principal Creative and owner of Status Serigraph.

I am an all purpose designer, but I specialize in limited-edition concert posters.

What are you working on?

I am currently working on a number of posters…summer is usually my busiest time of year. So far I am working on posters for My Morning Jacket, Furthur, Phish, the Avett Brothers, Andrew Bird and Wilco.

Choose a favorite shot of yours. Why is it a favorite?

My current favorite shot is my sneak peek of my new Avett Brothers Bonnaroo print. The Avett Brothers are a favorite client of mine and to do a poster for their Bonnaroo performance was a real honor. I can’t wait to unleash the whole image next week at Bonnaroo! I will be set up as part of the Bonnaroo poster show so I’ll get to hear plenty of feedback on this. It’s cool to hear from folks in person what they think of your work…its what drives me to be a better designer each and every day.

Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot(s)? (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch, etc.)

My set up is pretty simple. On the design end, my 15” Macbook Pro, a scanner, mouse, pen and paper, and the Adobe Creative Suite is pretty much all I use. For my posters I have a hand made screen printing setup in my garage. I have loads of old royalty free clip art I collect, as well as using my hands every once in a while to draw things. I try and make my designs using elements that differ in medium…photography, line drawings, found images…whatever it takes to get the job done.

Choose a favorite shot from another Player. Why do you dig it?

This Brooklyn Map shot by Two Arms Inc. is a favorite of mine. They have some real talent up there at Two Arms. I love their texture treatments and type choices on pretty much everything they do. I am currently working on a map for a music festival so this shot is super inspiring to look at.
